IaaS
Infrastructure as a Service
IaaS is a model that provides virtualized computing infrastructure on demand, consisting of virtual machines, virtual storage volumes and virtual networks.
The provider operates the physical hardware, while the customer manages the operating systems, applications and configurations.
Example: Amazon EC2 from AWS, which lets you launch a virtual server,
configure security and deploy an application.
PaaS
Platform as a Service
PaaS is a model that provides a managed platform for building and deploying applications. Developers upload their application code
and the platform handles the runtime and deployment. This lets them focus on code and data,
simplifies deployment and scaling and reduces direct infrastructure administration,
but it offers less OS-level control than IaaS.
Example: AWS Elastic Beanstalk, which deploys supported web applications
and coordinates the underlying AWS resources.
SaaS
Software as a Service
SaaS is a model that delivers complete applications over a network.
The software is operated by the provider in the cloud and users access it through
a browser or app on a laptop, smartphone or desktop, with nothing to install or maintain.
Example: Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 and Salesforce.
